From the colonial occupation of Spanish Philippines until the Mexican Revolution, not to mention the battle fields of the First and Second World War, the knife bolo became a weapon legendary for its usefulness and lethality.

For a long time has been, and remains, a tool used to clean up the weeds, and for various agricultural purposes. Today it is a symbol of the filipino culture and a key element of the filipino martial arts (FMA).

The knife bolo became popular throughout the world and influenced modern war, particularly in the army of the EE. UU. that was found for the first time with the knife bolo during the Spanish-American War, struggling to take control of the Philippines. During the First World War, the knife bolo became infamous to the germans that faced the american troops that would have these sheets. The fearsome swords came into action during the Second World War.

The spaniards had introduced the knife bolo in Mexico and after the mexican Revolution began in 1910, many fighters took them. The most famous of them was the rebel leader Pancho Villa.
